Eco-Spirit Launches ONE EARTH ONE PEOPLE Campaign
(Washington, DC, Wednesday, October 1, 2003) The international environmental organization, Eco-Spirit, announced today the launching of its ONE EARTH ONE PEOPLE Campaign. Eco-Spirit's President, David Reeves, stated: "The purpose of this new campaign is to unite all people of all faiths and spiritual beliefs, all races, all countries, and all cultures, behind a common goal of protecting the Earth and our environment, a goal which members of Eco-Spirit believe is a moral imperative."
"Eco-Spirit's ONE EARTH ONE PEOPLE Campaign seeks to promote a better understanding of the common ground among all people, by identifying the mutual environmental ethic that many of us share, and by educating people around the world on that common ethic," Reeves said. "Unfortunately, there have been a lot of divisive forces at work recently among the people of the world. Differences of religion, race, nationality, and culture sometimes pull us apart. Eco-Spirit hopes with its ONE EARTH ONE PEOPLE Campaign to emphasize our similarities, rather than our differences, bringing humanity together, while at the same time improving global environmental protection."
Eco-Spirit spokesperson, television and movie actress Jayne Brook (who has starred in TV series such as John Doe and Chicago Hope, and movies including Bye Bye Love and Kindergarten Cop), commented: "The world is beset by problems of hatred, war, and environmental destruction. I can't think of a more timely public awareness effort than Eco-Spirit's ONE EARTH ONE PEOPLE Campaign to save our beautiful planet and its people. It's time we all united to protect the Earth."
"We're very excited about this new pubic awareness campaign, as we believe it will help not only to unite the people of the world, but also to educate them on how their current faith instructs them to protect the Earth and all of Creation. At the same time it will guide them on how to lead environmentally sustainable lives. Many people I talk to indicate that they don't know how to incorporate their environmental ethic into the practice of their spiritual beliefs. The ONE EARTH ONE PEOPLE Campaign will help show them how to do that," Reeves added.
One way Eco-Spirit works to achieve these goals is through the distribution of its quarterly electronic publication, the Environmental Living and Eco-Spirituality E-Guide, which provides environmental awareness articles, eco-living guidelines, eco-spiritual lessons, and environmental activism tips. Environmental Living and Eco-Spirituality also promotes eco-friendly products and organizations, and initiates boycotts and e-mail campaigns against those which are environmentally harmful.
Eco-Spirit doesn't exclude anyone. In the ONE EARTH ONE PEOPLE effort, we intend to examine various traditional and contemporary religious practice, from Buddhism to Christianity, from Hinduism to Islam, from Judaism to New Age, Pantheism, Wicca, and Deep Ecology. We will identify the common directives throughout these faiths to protect our planet and all of the Natural World.

PAST ECO-SPIRIT ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVISM
Eco-Spirit works hard for you, speaking out to government leaders and officials around the globe as an advocate of Nature on important issues such as:
- Saving whales from gruesome deaths at the hands of outlaw Japanese whalers: Eco-Spirit contacted the Prime Minister of Japan and told him we were initiating a boycott of Japanese electronics until they stop illegal whaling.
- Supporting US Energy legislation that includes renewable sources such as wind and solar, increased auto fuel efficiency, conservation, and no oil drilling in Alaska's magnificent Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
- Banning chemical pesticides. Eco-Spirit supported the province of Quebec, Canada in their legislation outlawing the cosmetic use of toxic chemical pesticides on lawns and gardens. Next, we seek to enact similar laws in the US, the rest of Canada, and other countries around the globe.
- Stopping the slaughter of endangered wolves and grizzly bears in Idaho. Eco-Spirit let the governor and other misguided Idaho State politicians know that we won't tolerate their attacks on endangered species.
- Reforming gold mining practices that are incredibly destructive to the environment, such as cyanide heap leaching. Eco-Spirit contacted the world's largest gold mining company, Newmont Gold, and informed them we were commencing a boycott of all gold jewelry until they stop polluting and damaging the environment.
- Low frequency sonar that causes whales and other marine mammals excruciating ear hemorrhaging and mortality: Eco-Spirit asked the Secretary of the US Navy to stop its testing and use immediately.
